Again, this new style that I have started to develop deals with the thought of merging the ideas and concepts of Graphic Design with the technical and organic attributes of painting.
This is a 24″x48″ canvas. This painting was created with hand-made stencils and spray paint.
I’ve wanted to do a piece that was strictly spray paint for a long time. This may sound odd to some, but I’ve always found extreme beauty in graffiti art. I love the bright colors, the runs in the paint, and the blending capabilities that can be explored using spray paint. I also created several stencils for this piece. I hand drew all of them, then very nervously sat for a couple of hours and cut them out with a razor blade, the whole time wondering if I had made the right cuts and if the image in my head would show up in the end.
The verse that is stamped on this piece is from Amos 3:8.

If you ever have a lot of stensils and you want someone to help cut, I’d be happy to. I’m pretty handy with a box knife.
^this looks awesome.
Cool scripture
I love this. It is really beautiful.
It looks great David. I like the spray paint. As a past teacher may I make some comments, suggestions. If you are using a large stencil you can use white contact paper instead of taping paper together. It will also stick and stay in place for a short while only. If you leave it too long it will mess up the work underneath. Instead of a razor blade invest in an exacto knife much easier to work with.
Thanks Mrs. Winsett! I did actually use an exacto knife I just called it a razor.
